
The electron microscope was invented
In 1931, the electron microscope was invented by Max Knoll and Ernst Ruska at the Berlin Technische Hochschule.
Their work, capable of four-hundred-power, overcame the barrier to higher resolution that had been imposed by the limitations of visible light and proved the concept: electron beams could be harnessed to provide visible images of matter.
