On Feb. 28, 1953, James Watson and Francis Crick announced the discovery of the double helical structure of DNA. On April 25, 1953, Watson’s and Crick published their 900-word manuscript in Nature describing the double helical structure of DNA, one of the key discoveries of the century.

An X-ray diffraction photo of DNA taken by Raymond Gosling in May 1952, working as a PhD student under the supervision of Rosalind Franklin at King’s College London served as a key line of evidence in figuring out the structure of DNA.
