South Carolina detected first US cases associated with variant first detected in South Africa
On Jan. 28, 2021, the CDC announced that it had become aware of the first U.S. documented cases of the B 1.351 variant of SARS-CoV-2, which was first detected in South Africa, have been identified in South Carolina. Like the UK and Brazilian variants, preliminary data suggested this variant may spread more easily and quickly than other variants.
