Sea Turtle Genome Revealed Ancient Roadmap of Survival

, ,

On Feb. 7, 2023, scientists from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Fisheries’ tissue library announced they have for the first time sequenced the complete genomes of endangered leatherback and green sea turtles.

Their lineages have inhabited the planet for more than 100 million years. The genetic maps published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences reveal strengths and weaknesses in the species that could help understand their risk from climate change.
