ReFRAME drug repurposing collection yields hope for treating diseases that kill millions worldwide
On Oct. 3, 2018, Scripps Research announced that Calibr scientitsts from Scripp’s drug development division had bengun using ReFRAME, to identify existing drugs that show promise for treating major diseases. Two FDA-approved drugs were already being tested in clinical trialsラone as a treatment for tuberculosis and another for the parasite Cryptosporidium spp., a major cause of severe diarrheaラwithin only a few short years of Calibr scientists discovering their utility. By 2020, the collection had grown to comprise over 14,000 compounds, including drugs that are already being repurposed for a number of diseases.
