In 2007, R. Paul Robertson, M.D., at the Pacific Northwest Research Institute, received two grants totaling $3,173,400 from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) to improve islet transplantation and to investigate the role of antioxidants in ameliorating glucose toxicity in beta cells for type 2 diabetes.
