President Obama signed the Leahy-Smith America Invents Act
On Sept. 16, 2012 President Barack Obama signed the Leahy-Smith America Invents Act which overhauled the U.S. patent system to stimulate economic growth.
The Act implemented a first-inventor-to-file standard for patent approval, created a post-grant review system to weed out bad patents, and helps the Patent and Trademark Office address the backlog of patent applications.
