On Jan. 15, 2021, Pfizer and BioNTech announced they had developed a plan that allowed the scale-up of manufacturing capacities in Europe to deliver significantly more doses in the second quarter of 2021. To accomplish this, certain modifications of production processes were required at the company’s Puurs, Belgium facility and a temporary reduction in the number of doses was experienced.
