Paul Dudley White introduced the electrocardiograph to the U.S.
In 1914, at Harvard Medical School, Paul Dudley White introduced the electrocardiograph to the U.S. The original electrocardiograph employed a string galvanometer to record the potential deference between the extremities resulting from the heart’s electrical activation.
Electrocardiography today plays an important role as a non-invasive, cost-effective tool to evaluate arrhythmias and ischemic heart disease. Time Magazine called Dr. White ‘Dr. Cardiology’, whose pioneering work in preventive cardiology positively impacted the lifestyle of millions in the U.S. and abroad.
