OHSU announced collaboration with PNNL on biodefense project studying salmonella, pox viruses

On Sept. 14, 2004, researchers at OHSU and OHSU’s Vaccine and Gene Therapy Institute announced a collaboration with Pacific Northwest National Laboratory on a new five-year $10.3 million biodefense contract. The goal of the research was to discover the proteins associated with bacteria that cause salmonella poisoning and typhoid fever, and the virus that causes monkeypox.
OHSU researchers received $2.5 million of the funds provided by the National Institute of Allergies and Infectious Diseases.
