Nobel Prize in Medicine awarded for discovery of the ability of poliomyelitis viruses to grow in tissue cultures
In 1954, the Nobel Prize in Medicine was awarded to John Enders, Thomas Weller, and Fredrick Robbins for their discovery of the ability of poliomyelitis viruses to grow in tissue cultures.
