Wyckoff and Williams introduced the shadowing of electron microscope specimens
In 1945, scientists Ralph W. G. Wyckoff of the University of Michigan Department of Epidemiology and Robley Williams published the first electron shadow micrograph of the tobacco mosaic virus protein, the forerunner of his many subsequent contributions to the study of the structure of this and other viruses.
