National survey indicated HPV vaccine rates trail other teen vaccines
On Aug. 25, 2011, the National survey indicated HPV vaccine rates trail other teen vaccines. About 6 million people become infected with HPV each year, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that every year, about 12,000 women will be diagnosed with cervical cancer.
The CDC recommended HPV vaccine for 11- or 12-year-old girls to protect against the types of HPV that cause cervical cancer and also recommended teenage girls who have not yet been vaccinated with HPV vaccine complete the vaccination series.
