National Donor Day was founded
On Feb. 14, 1998, National Donor Day was started by the Saturn Corporation and its United Auto Workers partners with the support of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and many nonprofit health organizations.
The Division of Transplantation (DoT) is within the HHS. DoT is the primary federal entity responsible for oversight of the nation’s organ and blood stem cell transplant systems. DoT also implements programs and initiatives that increase organ and blood stem cell donations in the United States.
