On Jan. 12, 2001, the National Cancer Institute announced the creation of the Center for Cancer Research, merging two intramural divisions at NCIﾗthe Division of Basic Sciences and the Division of Clinical Sciencesﾗto provide greater opportunities to translate fundamental research into pioneering clinical research and molecular medicine.
