Kary B Mullis was awarded Nobel Prize in Chemistry

In 1993, Kary B. Mullis of La Jolla, CA and a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley (Ph.D) was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for contributions to the developments of methods within DNA-based chemistry, specifically for his invention of the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method.
