In 1962, Joseph Altman of MIT published several papers claiming that adult rats, cats, and guinea pigs all formed new neurons. Altman results were at first ridiculed, then ignored, and soon forgotten. By the 1990s, neuroscientists had confirmed that Altman and his coworkers were correct: adult neurogenesis did exist.
