In 1987, Johnsonﾠ &ﾠ Johnson introduced ACUVU brand contact lenses, the first disposable contact lenses that can be worn for up to a week, thrown away and replaced with a fresh pair.

The lenses eliminate the need for cleaning, disinfecting solutions and storage. Later, 1-DAY ACUVUE Brand Contact Lenses become the first daily disposable contact lens.
