HHS announced 66 million doses of Moderna’s variant-specific COVID-19 vaccine booster for potential use in Fall and Winter 2022

On Jul. 29, 2022, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Defense, announced an agreement to purchase 66 million doses of Moderna’s bivalent COVID-19 vaccine booster candidate for potential use in the fall and winter.

The contract included an award of up to $1.74 billion for the manufacture and delivery of 66 million doses of mRNA-1273.222, as well as options to purchase up to an additional 234 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine booster candidates from Moderna.
