Genentech opened its Hillsboro facility
On Apr. 10, 2010, Genentech opened its $400 million manufacturing center in Hillsboro, Oregon. The 75-acre property campus is home to a state-of-the-art fill/finish facility and warehousing and distribution center. In 2015, the company announced plans to invest more than $125 million in the expansion of its fill/finish facility.
Genentech was founded in April 1976 by venture capitalist Robert Swanson and biochemist Dr. Herbert Boyer. In the early 1970s, Boyer and geneticist Stanley Cohen at Stanford University pioneered recombinant DNA technology.
