First phase to consolidated FDA laboratories nationwide
In 1998, the first phase to consolidate U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) laboratories nationwide from 19 facilities to 9 by 2014 included dedication of the first of five new regional laboratories.
To prevent distribution of a product that has been found to be in violation of the Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act, FDA uses its nationwide network of laboratories to analyze samples and report results for regulatory action.
