On Aug. 21, 2002, the FDA announced an initiative to modernize the regulation of pharmaceutical manufacturing and product quality.

Since the initiative was announced, the FDA has completed its assessment of this regulatory area, called the current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) program.
