Endangered Chinese alligator genome sequenced
On Aug. 6, 2013, Chinese scientists from Zhejiang University and BGI announced in a study published in Cell Research the complete genome sequencing and analysis of the endangered Chinese alligator (Alligator sinensis).
This was the first published crocodilian genome, providing a good explanation of how terrestrial-style reptiles adapted to aquatic environments and temperature-dependent sex determination. The study results were published in Cell Research.
