In 1956, Dr. David Hume, a pioneer transplant surgeon, was appointed chairman and professor of surgery at The Medical College of Virginia. Dr. Hume had performed the worldﾒs first kidney transplant while still at Harvard and performed Virginiaﾒs first kidney transplant as well.
