In 1996, deCODE genetics was funded in Reykjavik, Iceland. deCODE is a global leader in analyzing and understanding the human genome. Using their unique expertise and population resources, deCODE and the cmpany have discovered key genetic risk factors for dozens of common diseases ranging from cardiovascular disease to cancer.

In 2012, deCODE genetics announced an agreement whereby Amgen acquired deCODE Genetics, a global leader in human genetics, headquartered in Reykjavik, Iceland. The all-cash transaction values deCODE Genetics at $415 million.
