Centocor was founded

In 1979, Centocor was founded – one of the nation’s first biotechnology companies best known for developing Remicade (a drug for rheumatoid arthritis and Crohn’s disease).

The company founder, Hubert J.P. Schoemaker a Dutch-born biochemist, served as chair of the company until 1999 when the company was acquired by Johnson & Johnson for $4.9 billion.
