In 1950, Bernard (Steve) Brodie of NHI published a paper on procaine that was illustrative of the “new pharmacology”–a rational introduction of biochemistry and organic chemistry in the analysis of drug metabolism and disposition. Brodie is considered to be the founder of modern pharmacology.
