In 1993, the Baim Institute was first founded as the Cardiovascular Data Analysis Center (CDAC) by Donald S. Baim, MD, and Richard E. Kuntz, MD in order to provide academic insight and leadership to interventional cardiology trials.

In 2000, it became the Harvard Clinical Research Institute (HCRI), and in October 2016, it was renamed the Baim Institute for Clinical Research.
