Army General Hospital 21 became first medical facility

,

In 1918 Army General Hospital 21, also know as the Fitzsimons Life Science District, became the first medical facility built on this site. Two years later, it was renamed the Fitzsimons Army Medical Hospital in honor of Lieutenant William T. Fitzsimons, the first American medical officer killed in World War I.

Today, the name ‘Fitzsimons’ is associated with outstanding healthcare and medical education, and the Fitzsimons Life Science District’s leadership role within Colorado’s bioscience community.
