On Oct. 6, 1918, all of Denver’s schools, colleges, and places of public assembly were closed to try to stem the influenza epidemic.
By the morning of October 15, physicians reported 257 new cases in the last 24-hour period, bringing the total number of cases since the start of the epidemic to 1,440.
