Albert Einstein Cancer Center became site for the Hispanic Community Health Study
On Jan. 12, 2015, The Albert Einstein Cancer Center became the only medical institution in New York City, New York State and the northeast to serve as a research site for the Hispanic Community Health Study, the largest research study of Hispanic health.
In 2014, the Center reported that one in every six people in the U.S. is Hispanic/Latino and as a group they live longer than non-Hispanic whites (81.4 years vs. 78.8 years). Yet, despite their strong representation and relative longevity, little is understood about this group’s health conditions and behaviors.
Today, with 4,000 Bronx participants and 12,000 more in San Diego, Chicago, and Miami, HCHS/SOL is the largest, most comprehensive study of cardiovascular and lung disease in Hispanic/Latino people ever undertaken in the United States.
