On Jul. 22, 2022, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released a MMWR report that summarized the 2021-2022 flu season. The timing and severity of the season were different than the previous season.
While there was more activity than last season, the 2021-2022 season was still relatively mild. Also, activity lasted later than any flu season on record, with two waves of flu activity. Flu A(H3N2) viruses were predominant during both waves.
