On Oct. 12, 2022, scientists announced they had developed a research method that allows for a much more detailed examination of the brain processes involved in some neurological and mental disorders. This was achieved by growing human cortical organoids in culture and inserting them into developing rodent brains to see how they integrate and function over time.

The study, funded by the National Institute of Mental Health, appeared in the journal Nature.
