Global scientists doubled down on SARS-CoV-2 variants research
On Jan. 12, 2021, the WHO announced that global scientists were intensifying research into COVID-19 to expand its scientific collaboration and monitoring of emerging variants of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. To-date, 350,000 sequences had been publicly shared, but most came from just a handful of countries.
