FDA authorized first-of-its-kind low-cost ventilator developed by University of Minnesota
On Apr. 15, 2020, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authorized the production and use of a low-cost ventilator first conceived by a team of University of Minnesota researchers and an alumnus.
Known as the Coventor, this ventilator was the first-of-its-kind authorized for use under the FDA’s Emergency Use Authorization for the COVID-19 outbreak. The Coventor received support from design partners Boston Scientific and Medtronic.
