Yale Cancer Center oncologists performed the first bone marrow transplant in Connecticut
In 1988, oncologists from Yale Cancer Center performed the first bone marrow transplant in Connecticut at the Yale-New Haven Hospital. Yale Cancer Center immunologist, Dr. Charles Janeway, established and proved his theory of innate immunity.
Janeway was one of the leading immunologists of his generation whose ideas formed many of the concepts that are the basis of immunology today. He made major contributions to our understanding of T lymphocyte biology. He was renowned for his recent work on innate immunity, which is the body’s first line of defense against infection.
