Samuel Broder became the tenth director of the National Cancer Institute
On Dec. 22, 1988, Samuel Broder became the tenth director of the National Cancer Institute, serving until 1995. He succeeded Vincent T. DeVita, Jr.
Since 1981 Dr. Broder was associate director for clinical oncology at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, MD. Prior to that, he was senior investigator of the metabolism branch at the National Cancer Institute, 1976-1981; investigator of the medicine branch, 1975-1976; and clinical associate of the metabolism branch, 1972-1975. Broder was a co-developer of some of the first effective drugs for the treatment of AIDS.
