Generic Animal Drug and Patent Term Restoration Act extended to veterinary products benefits given human drugs under the 1984 Drug Act
On Nov. 16, 1988, the President signed into law the Generic Animal Drug and Patent Term Restoration Act. The Act extended to veterinary products benefits given to human drugs under the 1984 Drug Price Competition and Patent Term Restoration Act.
Companies can produce and sell generic versions of animal drugs approved after October. 1962 without duplicating research done to prove them safe and effective. The act also authorized extension of animal drug patents.
