The Priestley Medal was awarded to Linus Pauling
On Aug. 30, 1983, almost exactly 250 years after the birth of famous chemist Joseph Priestley, Linus Pauling was awarded the most prestigious award granted by the American Chemical Society: the Priestley Gold Medal “to recognize distinguished services to chemistry.”
