In 1983, the Arkansas Science & Technology Authority was created to bring the benefits of science and technology to the state of Arkansas. The authority promoted scientific research, technology development, business innovation, and math, science, and engineering education throughout the state.

The first programs were implemented in 1986, and more have been added. The programs are grouped into three broad categories: research and commercialization, technology and manufacturing extension, and management services.

Today, the Division of Science and Technology at the Arkansas Economic Development Commission is developing the infrastructure to support the groundbreaking research conducted in Arkansas, which in turn leads the way to the successful launch of vibrant entrepreneurial and innovation companies.
