In 1979, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) assumed lead responsibility in the U.S. Public Health Service for environmental emergency response. Today, the National Center for Environmental Health (NCEH) conduct research in the laboratory and in the field to investigate the effects of the environment on health.
