In 1974, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) began regular responses to public health crises in other countries, first by giving assistant in sub-Saharan Africa for famine. Today, the CDC works to protect the U.S. from deadly and costly public health crises, whether they begin here or elsewhere.
