In 1973, Senator Norris Cotton secured a second federal grant of $500,000 to support cancer research at Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth. In 1972, Cotton secured a $3 million federal grant to build rural New England’s first regional cancer center. That same year, the Norris Cotton Cancer Center was founded, and named for Senator Cotton who represented New Hampshire in the U.S. Congress from 1947 to 1974.
