Federal revenues flowed into Alaska under the political leadership of US Senator Ted Stevens
In 1968, Ted Stevens, Alaska’s senior Senator, was elected to the U.S. Congress. His tenure made him the most senior member among his colleagues, and first among Republicans
Stevens held the position of Senate President Pro Tempore, and was Chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, which has oversight of the Departments of Commerce and Transportation, and was past Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, 1997-2004.
