The Alaska Frozen Tissue Collection was founded

In 1991, the University of Alaska is home to the Alaska Frozen Tissue Collection (AFTC) was founded as a regional archive for biological samples containing samples from over 60,000 animals.
In addtion to the AFTC, the University has more than a dozen research centers and institutes that focus on the Arctic. UAF researchers are experts in their fields and receive funding from a wide variety of local, state and federal sources.
