On Apr. 11, 1953, Childrenﾒs Orthopedic Hospital, now Seattle Childrenﾒs, relocated from Queen Anne to its new facility in Laurelhurst. It was an all-volunteer operation, with taxis and ambulances moving patients while moving vans took supplies and equipment. Boy and Girl Scouts held signs along the 5-mile route to guide drivers. The hospital reloated its facilities to be closer to the new UW Medical and Dental School.
