In 1948, the National Cancer Institute’s grants program to medical, dental, and osteopathic schools was initiated for improvement of training in the field of cancer research, diagnosis, and treatment. To achieve its research goals, ther NCI issues grants to support investigator-initiated research, to conduct clinical trials, and to support initiatives that address health care disparities.
