The science of genetics was born when Mendel’s work was rediscovered by three scientists
In 1900, the science of genetics was born when Gregor Mendel’s work was rediscovered by three scientists – Hugo DeVries, Erich Von Tschermak and Carl Correns – each independently checking scientific literature for precedents to their own work.
The botanists rediscovered Mendel’s work in the same year, a generation after Mendel published his papers. They helped expand awareness of the Mendelian laws of inheritance in the scientific world. Each man announced Mendel’s discoveries and his own work as confirmation of them.
