The State University of Iowa (University of Iowa) was founded
On Feb 25, 1847, the State University of Iowa, now known as the University of Iowa, was founded in Iowa City. The first faculty offered instruction at the university in March 1855 to students in the Old Mechanics Building, situated where Seashore Hall is now located.
In 1882, the Department of Dentistry was founded with G.V. Black, considered the father of modern dentistry, later teaching in the department.
