Potatoes from Peru were planted in Germany
In 1621, potatoes from Peru were planted in Germany, another example of foreign microbes finding new homes. Botanist Caspar Bauhin called the tuber ‘solanum tuberosum esculentum’, which translates as ‘edible, tuberous nightshade’.
